How to Figure Out When a Side Hustle Is Not the Right One for You

Hello, my beautiful sisters,

Sometimes, we dive into a side hustle with high hopes, ready to build a dream, or just to make ends meet. But not every side hustle is the right one for you.

If you’re feeling drained, unmotivated, or out of alignment with your values, it’s time to pause and assess.

Today, let’s talk about recognizing when it’s time to let go of a side hustle and how to trust God to guide you toward something better.

Empathy: Acknowledge the Struggles

First, know you’re not alone.

Many of us start a side hustle to lighten financial burdens or chase dreams, only to find ourselves exhausted, uninspired, or even questioning why we began. Maybe you’ve invested time and money, and now you’re afraid of “quitting” because it feels like failing.

But sis, releasing what isn’t serving you is not failure—it’s wisdom.

Reframing the Focus: Signs It’s Time to Let Go

Here are some practical ways to evaluate whether a side hustle is no longer the right one for you:

  1. Your Values Are Compromised
If the work forces you to act in ways that don’t align with your morals or faith, that’s a red flag. God will never guide you to something that requires you to betray who He created you to be.
  2. It’s Not Adding Joy or Growth
Every side hustle won’t be glamorous, but if it consistently drains your energy without giving back anything in terms of joy, new skills, or hope for the future, it might not be worth it.
  3. It’s Negatively Impacting Your Well-Being
Are you constantly stressed, sacrificing sleep, or missing precious moments with family? If your health and relationships are suffering, it’s time to re-evaluate.
  4. You’re Not Seeing Progress
While results take time, if you’ve been at it long enough and see no growth despite your best efforts, it might be a sign to pivot.

Encouragement: Trust God’s Timing

Letting go is scary, but it opens the door for something better.

Trust that God has a plan for you—a plan to prosper you and not harm you, as Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us. Every closed door can lead to a divine opportunity.

Use this time to pray and reflect. Ask God to reveal His will and show you the path that truly aligns with your purpose.

  • Step Back and Reflect: Journal about what you’ve learned from this side hustle. Every experience teaches us something valuable.
  • Research New Opportunities: Look for side hustles that better fit your skills, lifestyle, and values. Consider how they align with God’s plan for you.
  • Lean Into Your Network: Speak to mentors, friends, or community members who can offer advice or new ideas.
  • Don’t Be Afraid to Rest: If you need a breather, take it. Clarity often comes when we give ourselves space to listen.

Sisters, release what’s holding you back and walk in faith toward what God has waiting for you.

Remember, your side hustle should work for you, not against you. You’ve got this.
