Hello, my beautiful sisters.

Let’s talk about something that can be both exciting and nerve-wracking: asking for the raise you deserve.

Negotiating your salary is about more than money—it’s about advocating for your worth, recognizing your contributions, and ensuring you’re valued in your workplace.

Have you ever hesitated to ask for a raise because you were afraid of rejection, worried about appearing greedy, or unsure how to bring it up?

You’re not alone, and that’s why we’re going to break it down today. Negotiating doesn’t have to feel scary or awkward.

In fact, it’s one of the most empowering skills you can master.

Remember, You are Your Bigger Advocate

Sisters, I get it.

The thought of sitting across from your boss and discussing money can feel intimidating.

Maybe you’ve been told to be grateful for what you have or fear being labeled as “difficult.”

Or perhaps you’ve convinced yourself that your hard work will eventually be noticed without you having to ask.

The truth is, you are your biggest advocate.

If you don’t speak up for yourself, who will? Your time, skills, and contributions are valuable, and asking for a raise is not about being entitled—it’s about ensuring you’re fairly compensated for your work.

Practical Strategies for Negotiating Like a Pro

  1. Do Your Homework
Research is key. Look up salary benchmarks for your role, industry, and location using tools like Glassdoor, Payscale, or LinkedIn Salary. Know the average range for someone with your skills and experience so you have a clear starting point for negotiations.
  2. Document Your Wins
Keep track of your accomplishments, big and small. Did you lead a successful project, exceed your performance targets, or take on extra responsibilities? Use specific examples to demonstrate your value and how your work has benefited the company.
  3. Practice Your Pitch
Rehearse what you’re going to say. Start with your gratitude for the opportunity and lead into your accomplishments and the value you’ve brought to the organization. Then, confidently state your desired salary range based on your research. For example:
“I’ve really enjoyed contributing to our team’s success, particularly with [specific project]. Based on my research and the impact I’ve made, I believe a salary adjustment to [$amount or range] would better reflect my contributions.”
  4. Consider Timing
Timing can make all the difference. Schedule your discussion during a performance review, after completing a major project, or when the company is in a strong financial position. Avoid asking during stressful or uncertain times.
  5. Be Ready to Negotiate
Your manager may not immediately agree to your request, and that’s okay. Be prepared to listen, discuss, and find a compromise. If a raise isn’t possible right now, consider negotiating other perks like additional vacation days, a one-time bonus, or professional development opportunities.
  6. Stay Professional and Confident
Remember, this is a business discussion. Keep emotions in check and stay professional, even if the conversation doesn’t go as planned. Confidence is key—believe in your worth and stand firm.

Encouragement

Sisters, asking for a raise is not just about money—it’s about self-respect and recognizing your own worth.

You deserve to be compensated fairly for your skills and hard work. And let’s be honest, advocating for yourself in the workplace is a life skill that will serve you well beyond this one conversation.

If the idea of negotiating feels daunting, remember: it’s okay to start small.

The more you practice advocating for yourself, the easier it becomes. You are capable of having this conversation and walking away feeling empowered.

Uplifting Call to Action

This week, I challenge you to start preparing for your next salary discussion. Take the first step by researching salary benchmarks for your role and writing down your accomplishments from the past year.

And here’s the kicker: practice your pitch in front of a mirror or with a trusted friend. Confidence grows with preparation.

Tell me in the comments: What’s one accomplishment you’re most proud of that you’ll highlight in your next negotiation? Let’s cheer each other on and make sure we’re all getting the compensation we deserve.

Until next time, my beautiful sisters, remember: you are worthy, capable, and deserving of abundance. Go claim what’s yours! 💼✨
